If you are a Canadian citizen who is planning to marry in Russia
Marriages are registered in bureaus of civil status registration (ZAGS).
Documents you normally need to submit to ZAGS:
- A joint application signed by you and your fiancé(e).
- Your valid national passport and its translation.
- Certificate issued by your provincial civil status bureau proving that you are not married. The certificate shall be apostiled and translated into Russian, the translation shall be certified by a Russian consul or a notary in Russia.
- If you were married before, you need to prepare your divorce certificate or the death certificate of your late spouse. The certificate shall be apostiled and translated into Russian, the translation shall be certified by a Russian consul or a notary in Russia.
Please be advised that translations certified by Canadian notaries are not valid in Russia.
We also strongly recommend you consult the bureau of civil status registration (ZAGS) in Russia, where you are going to get married, in advance.
